Who
We are the Southern Four Wheel Drive Association, a organization of 4 wheel drive clubs and individual members in the southeastern United States. Formed in 1987 our association is dedicated to promoting four wheel drive recreation on both public and private lands, off-road education, responsible land usage and OHV trail conservation. SFWDA proudly supports ORBA, Tread Lightly, Blue Ribbon Coalition and the UFWDA.
What
SFWDA supports and facilitates projects throughout the year at the club, state and regional levels. Consistent with our stated mission the purpose is to respect and protect our valuable natural resources and promote responsible land usage in both the public and private sectors. SFWDA works in close cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), state agencies in various regions and also private land owners. The SFWDA member clubs and individual members contribute thousands of man-hours each year on projects. Our member clubs work on projects at Uwharrie National Forest (NC), Beasley Knob (GA), Daniel Boone Forrest (KY) and many other locations throughout the southeastern United States. Each of these projects encompass working with land use agencies, local government agencies and land owners to facilitate responsible land usage and OHV trail conservation.
How
As members of SFWDA, we place a strong emphasis on supporting the core principles of “Tread Lightly” to help insure safe and courteous driving and proper use of our off-highway vehicles. The SFWDA, under the auspices of the United Four Wheel Drive Association (UFWDA), has a 4WD Awareness program which is held on a regular basis for novice drivers. The 4WD Awareness Program educates the 4×4 owner about general off-highway techniques and courtesies related to OHV usage and more specific education related to driving skills, elementary vehicle mechanics, recovery techniques and recommended equipment to carry on the trail. Our emphasis on education not only encompasses 4WD safety, but also emphasizes environmental concerns and the “Tread Lightly” philosophy.
Why
The promotion of safe, friendly 4 wheel drive recreation among people who share the common interest of family oriented fun is of prime importance to the SFWDA. Four wheeling is a sport that is enjoyed by people of all ages and walks of life. SFWDA welcomes all enthusiasts regardless of age, sex, race or level of expertise. We help to organize and promote a variety of off road events all over the southeast United States where we unite to socialize, communicate, and appreciate the outdoors with our 4WD vehicles.
