The Mackay & District 4WD Club was formed back in 1998 by a group of avid 4wders wanting to explore this great region with other like minded people. A wide range of 4WD’s, camper trailers and caravans are used by our members to enjoy and make the most of our outdoor activities.
What do we do?
Almost all of our trips involve 4wding and are suitable for all manner of 4WD’s to attend. With a focus on club activities, we regularly enjoy great weekend camping trips to allow us to unwind as well as shorter day trips to satisfy the hunger of getting out there. Our active trip co-ordinator throws in a wide variety of destinations and fills in quiet weekends with social activities that can consist of BBQ’s, games nights or just a nice dinner amongst friends.
What do you need?
The only thing that you need is a 4WD, a sense of adventure, and some camping gear if you intend on a weekend trip with the club. There is no need to have a fully accessorised 4WD to start with however basic recovery gear will be needed if you decided to do regular club trips. Being a part of the club will allow you a good insight into what others have done with their 4WD’s which will aid in setting up your own 4WD to suit your needs. If you are just starting out and are short of something, no need to worry as there are others in the club who can help out.
Driver Awareness?
The club runs driver awareness courses as required and once new members have complete the Clubs Driver Awareness Program, further instruction and guidance (if required) is given on club trips. All trips are graded 1-5 according to difficulty and all attendees will be notified of any challenging sections during the trip briefing so they can make their own decision. No one is asked or expected to attempt a difficult track if they feel they, or their vehicle are not equipped for the conditions.
